I’ve learned something new about myself in the last few months. Seems odd that it should have escaped me up till now, yet that is apparently the case. My discovery is this: I LOVE lamps. I LOVE them. I’ve always known I liked them, but this, this isn’t like. In some cases, this is adoration, possibly bordering on zeal.
I’ll be honest with you… I’ve often thought that lamps were a fairly silly thing to spend money on. After all, you can go to Marshall’s and get something pretty for next to nothing. But what I’ve only recently come to understand is that a good quality lamp is actually ART, which happens to emit light. Such style… such grace… oh, the form and the function! It can take your breath away.
That said, you can fully expect this to be part 1 of ___ (???), dedicated to my favorite lighting and accessory companies. Today, we’re going to look at Cyan Designs, purveyors of some of the prettiest (and occasionally quirkiest) accessories on the design market. If you’re looking for that perfect little something to complete your space, chances are good that you can find it in their catalog, which is massive. Here is a tiny sliver of deliciousness to whet your appetite:
Let’s start with some lighting:
I love the way the glossy white ceramic base subtly mirrors the pattern on the shade. I also love the unexpected color of the shade, and its contrast with the base.
The chrome body and glossy, translucent bronze shade are just so sexy together! Makes me want to design a room in chocolate and velvet and shimmer and moodiness.
The intricate cutouts in the glossy ceramic base make this piece a little whimsical, but the deep brown shade keeps it tailored and sophisticated.
I just adore the rich color of the base and the texture of the tree branches. It’s a bold accent in a very simple shape. An excellent way to bring a punch of color to a space.
Omg, I love him so much. I just want to hug him. At less than 18” tall, this lamp is ideal for a desk or nightstand. The gold shade is lined in white, so you’ll get tons of warmth, and plenty of light.
The tan and aqua wood body sits on a crystal base. The white shade is lined with gold. This lamp would bring incredible texture and warmth to a formal space.
Ceramic lamps have become so popular, it’s refreshing to see something different. I love how the glaze has been washed over the textured base, rather than the commonplace smooth, solid color.
I saved my favorite for last. Casual, formal, modern, traditional, and in any room of the house, this lamp is a showstopper. I’m getting all verklempt just looking at him…
On to the accessories!
Available in three sizes, this would make an excellent background to a display, and is great for narrow areas, like mantles and shelves. Natural elements always bring warmth to a room.
Look at this collection of oversize monopoly pieces! These would be FANTASTIC spread throughout a bookcase display.
Try not to let your decorating take itself too seriously. Both of these guys crack me up every time I look at them!
Nickel and nautical are all the rage right now, and these accessories give you both. Perfect for creating that upscale coastal vibe.
Cyan has some fantastic sculptures, and I think this modern interpretation of a mustang could easily pass as original art.
These are so unique. They feel a little sad, and for some inexplicable reason, I find them impossibly beautiful. I want them on my mantle, pronto.
I’ve had a thing for these sort of gourd-shaped vessels for a while now, and Cyan carries them in several flavors, as you see here.
This is one of a pair in this style, and they would be a great way to sneak some texture into a sleek, modern space.
I saw this featured in a recent edition of Luxe magazine, and it was love at first sight. Desperate to use him immediately!
Ok, I’m going to stop before this post gets any more carried away than it already has. Seriously, this isn’t EVEN the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Cyan’s line, and I had to pare down ruthlessly to get down to this number of items.
You can view their entire line at www.cyandesign.biz, and email me at kristy at kninteriors dot com for pricing.
So what do think of Cyan? I’d love to know what your favorites are, either in this post, or from their website!
